reflection on children party- i know this is very random, but this is what i did for the past few minutes. Sitting down recalling what had happened during 27th june. It is a long and wordy one.
' Planning and organising is never an easy job. Having a successful event is the best thing for any organiser. A sense of satisfaction. Well, this applies to me. Through so many weeks of I&E lesson, many discussions among team members, we managed to hold a children party on the 27th june 2009. I dont know about how others feel, but i feel great. It was definately a fun and enjoyable day for me. Seeing the children enjoying themselves happily, i soon also indulge into their stress-free world. I like to see how innocent their sweet faces are. It is priceless! Well, and also, through this I&E lesson, i got to make new friends who are fun to be with. I got to work with different types of people. Though no doubt i met some difficulties during discussions( which was discussed in the reflection 1), however, we still managed to come out with a conclusion, an answer. Teamwork is always important for a group work. Im glad that i have team members who at least care about their grades and have a same mindset as me; wanting this children party to be a successful one. Im glad that i got such a nice lecturer who is always there for me when i need help. I thank him for his great help. Without him guiding us, i dont think this event will work. On the 27th june 2009, we went down to commonwealth community centre( where the event is going to be held at ) with lots of materials, goodie bags on our hand. We waitd patiently for the children to come. Though the amount of children was not as large as 40 to 50, however, they really made me smile. They are very cute and also, naughty. Game started, they were screaming, laughing and shouting. Dont judge people just by their looks. This is so true, they may be small but they are very daring. Minutes later, we became 'good' friends. They are very sociable. Something then happened, one of the children vomited for, he ate things way before the activities. I must admit that we should not play games that are too vigorous that leads to such thing happen. Next, a small little boy went over to sit down. I approached him and started questioning him stuffs. He told me he got bullied by the malay guy and doesnt wish to play games anymore. I tried consoling him and gave him sweets. In the end, everything is alright. Im glad he's back to normal, and again, playing and laughing happily with his friends. Played a number of games. First was musical chair, second was the dog-and-bone, third was the join-the-caterpillar, forth was the 'Simon says' and lastly was the hunter-earthquake-fire game. Everyone has its fair share of fun i believe. After all the games had been played, it was distributing of goodie bags to the children. We prepared more than the amount of children being present so we decided to go each and every floor to give out the remaining goodie bags. We went up to the highest floor and went visiting each and every of the houses. I feel kind of sad when i past by each house. The house looked very run down. However, some words enlighten me; which is. even though they are poor, but they are contented with what they have. This is so true. Im so touched by their expressions when we said" its free, you may take it. (: " Then the next moment, they went 'thank you thank you'. This is so heart warming. After all the goodie bags are being distributed, it was then a passer by came forward and say' may i have that packet of flour' (Cause we bought extra initally), we gave her without a second thought. Then the kids went" i want the balloons! i want the ball! i want this! i want that! " So we gave them everything that we could, i love the way how they react. Even the smallest thing can make them smile till so happily. Again, this is priceless. It is actually not a very easy job even though it is a free admission entry to the children party, not every children are willing to go down to play with us. Some of their parents are not at home hence, they got no permission to go down to play with us. Planning of the activities in consideration of the safety is also another important factor as kids are very playful and hyper which leads to running about the area. Organising an event needs lots of effort and team work is required to make it a successful one. Im glad that this children party has indeed made me learnt some lessons. It helps me to maximising the money to buy more items, having a budget in mind to keep track of the amount of money spent, putting myself in their shoes and spare a thought for them, planning activities in consideration of the duration; how long does each game consists of, the place; where is it held, the amount of people, the number of things to buy. Through this children party, it makes me feel more like volunteering in the future. Though money is everything but money cant buy happiness. Indeed, i encountered quite a few problems before the event was being held( this was stated in the reflection 1), but as a group, we managed to conquer them and make this a success one. In my opinion, i feel that, since it is a group work. We should not depend on anyone to do everything, instead, we should help out each other whenever one encountered a problem. I believe that if now you help people, next time if you will to encounter any problem, im sure people will help you out too. Last but not least, when we are a group, we must have this mindset which says" one for all, all for one." '
Will blog more about today when i come back. so, stay tuned! :D
